yea its extremely cheap and if you get it with the orange box for 20 bucks you get hl2 and episodes 1 and 2, portal, and tf2. There's also a shitload of sales on steam and you might be able to get it for less sometime.

Yeah, I agree. I started with online team FPS way back in the days of Return to Castle Wolfenstein (RtCW). It was a similar class-oriented teamplay style and it really rocked. If you know Steam games mostly thru CS:S, then you should really give Team Fortress 2 a try. It's nothing like CS:S, where "team" is optional, and it's really a bunch of individuals vying for superiority.

TF2 requires, actually begs for teamwork to accomplish objectives, and enables a large variety of classes to allow the team members to customize their personal playstyles while contributing to the team goals. The team is rewarded that has the most teamwork oriented players cooperating to meet the goals.

As far as individual competencies and challenge, the multiple classes will give each player of TF2 more than one class that will appeal to them, both initially, and for long term skill & objective progression. Some classes may not appeal at all to one player, while the next player loves them. Other classes take a lot of dedicated playtime to master, so there is plenty to keep you interested in TF2 once you start getting the hang of it.
