How old IS the Xbox? If you used a credit card, they may cover it.
3 years and 3 weeks got it from walmart paid with a check. 3 weeks after the warranty is gone the fucker bricks what timing.

When mines broke Sony quoted me £145 for a repair. Which isn't really a repair as all they do is give you one they have fixed up earlier while yours is fixed at a later date and passed on to someone else.
The price is static so while your console might only need a repair costing £2 you still have to pay the full amount.
Luckily I managed to convince the retailer I purchased it from to replace it for me.(1.5 years out of warranty)

Ok here's the deal my xbox 360 just died on me 3 weeks after the warranty is out. So I went and checked how much it would cost to get it fixed. To ship it to mircosoft to get it fixed it take 20 days for them to fix it and they charge $150.00. I just checked the price of a new 360 and they cost $200.00. My question is this how stupid does Microsoft think people are?
I've also got another question does anyone know if you can remove your 360 hard drive and install it into another one?
That sucks, my hard drive broke about 1 month after I bought it, shipped it back to them no cost at all. I didn't buy any warranty from best buy when I bought it.
And yea you can take your hard drive and plug it in any xbox, works fine

Loses my fucking ass if someone who wasn't gonna buy a copy in the first place illegally downloads a digital copy they didn't lose shit. They weren't gonna get his money in the first place and that digital copy didn't cost them anything to produce. If he stole a disc they would have lost 1 cent.
I've never paid for a digital copy of anything and I don't plan on it Paying for something that essentially doesn't exist doesn't seem so very bright to me.

He was referring to Microsoft stealing people's money to cover the losses because of people who pirate PC games.

I think you only get 3 year warranty if you XBox dies and shows the "ring of death" (3 red lights), otherwise it is only 2 years in the usa. So its important to tell us if you get 3 red lights or not

whats wrong with the xbox? At the moment we're all assuming it really is broken.

It not the red ring in fact it wont even power on anymore. The disc drive was starting to go out before that doubt they are connected. I'm glad their is no disc in there. I've already turned it in on a red ring of death before.
Before anyone assumes I'm stupid I've already check the plug and the lot.
g.O.D Do you think that argument would work here in the states? I'm not sure if we have such a law.

Also, maybe unplug anything in the USB sockets, or see if the USB sockets are bent; they could be shorting your unit.
As for the piracy thing: people pirate Windows because they can, and because they're cheap. What else are they going to use? Linux?
