This will be a FAQ question section about Trackmania Nations Forever.
If you see TMNF in my text that’s just short for Trackmania Nations Forever.

What is Trackmania?
Trackmania is a arcade like race game.
Which features allot of tracks with loopings, jumps and all kind of stunts.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HOJxiQ34C0

Where can I get Trackmania Nations Forever?
The easiest way is to go on steam. (If you do not have it create a steam account)
Then go to their store and look up TMNF.
http://store.steampo....com/app/11020/

Click install then the game will be downloaded and installed on your system.
The beauty of this game is that it is free.

What are the system requirements?

Supported OS: Windows 2000/XP/XP-x64/Vista
Processor: Pentium IV 1.6GHz / AthlonXP 1600+
Graphics: 3D accelerator 16 MB DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c or better
Memory: 256 MB (512 MB with Vista)
Sound: 16 bit DirectX compatible sound card
Hard Drive: 750 MB free disk space

Where can I find the Exodus server?

Once you have booted up TMNF go to Play online.
Then click all.
Go to the United states of America server tab.
Then click on Texas.
Then you will quickly find a server named "ExodusCommunity.com"

Click it and you will join the game.

Also when you are in the server press 'Esc' to gain acces to the menu.
If you press 'add to favorites' then Exodus will be under your favorites tab.

How can I add friends?

TMNF doesn’t use the steam friends list as their friends list.
What you do is the following go to the main menu of TMNF.
Click invite.
Then the game prompts you to enter a name fill in the login name of the person you want to add.

After that the other guy needs to confirm and then it is done.
This allows you to follow each other to a game.

How do I install custom tracks?

Once you have a track downloaded it should go to the following folder.
C:\Users\********\Documents\TrackMania\Tracks\Challenges\

The C:\Users\********\Documents\TrackMania\Tracks\Challenges\My Challenges folder is for your own creations.
(The stars are your windows login name)

If these folders do not exist you can simply create them.
Though the Trackmania folder should already exist!!!

After finding the correct folder place the .gbx file in the folder.
After that load up TMNF.

Click play solo -> browse.
Over there you should see the track you have added.
You can also click My challenges to look and play your own creations.

How do I install a custom vehicle skin?

Custom vehicles nearly work the same as adding a new track.
But this time you should add them to the following folder.

C:\Users\********\Documents\TrackMania\Skins\Vehicles\Carcommon
(The stars are your windows login name)

Once you have downloaded a car DO NOT UNZIP IT.
Just copy the zip file and paste it in the folder listed above.
Usually the carcommon folder does not exist create it.

To play with your custom car load up TMNF.
Go to -> Profile -> vehicles.
Then use the arrows to go all the way to the back of the vehicles list.
After that you will find all you custom vehicles.

Spoiler

Then simply select your car. (so the green arrow is above it)
And then you can take it for a spin.
They even work online however it usually takes time before players see the skin.
Plus not all the skins are being transmitted to other players.

Yeah it's nice, especially if played with friends.
We played together for a few hours years ago, there were like 5 of us if I remember correctly, and has been great.

I haven't installed it since then. Might be fun to play it again, but the problem is to find the right time.
Years ago I (we) was free all day long and we could easily manage to find each other around to play something, but now I just don't know when I have some spare time, which can happen randomly during day/night, so I can never really make it for any organized event :(

Me and a friend keep buying coop games to play together and because of our different commitments, we can usually just play each game once, and that can happen like once every month or 2 lol

If I'll ever remember to install it, I'll definitely try to play with you and whoever wants to join in, though. :)

Hi Cunin, can I ask you a question: out of all the games you and your buddy play which ones would you recommend to give a go? me and andy are always up for trying out different games together (pref Co-op but PvP ok too) :D

I'm not really into PvP, unless it's team-based and well done, so don't worry :)

I must admit that we didn't play so much of most of the coop games we've got. Also, I usually only buy games on VERY good sales and/or bundles, because it would be wasted money for a just one or two matches together.

Right now I'm having fun with the Sniper Ellte: Nazi Zombie Army series. When I'm lucky enough, I can find some people playing them and therefore I can enjoy some good coop. If you like sniping, zombies and serious coop (meaning you'll have to cover each other's ass or you'll all die), then it's pretty fun. I got both for €4,99 on the last sale if I'm not wrong, and they're definitely worth that price, even though they're not very long (I got 24 hours out of the first so far, but I've milked it enough I think).

Speaking of serious coop, the whole Serious Sam series is coop-able, and I've always loved that game, although teamplay there is much less important than in other coop games (as dying won't matter much, but it depend on the chosen mode), but still fun.

There's a ton of other games we've had fun with, though, like Final Exam, FEAR 3, Little Racers STREET, Flatout 2 and many others, though as I said I didn't play so much of most of them, so I don't want to suggest anything in particular (they might suck if played more). We've also had fun, sometimes, because the game was so bad that we were laughing all the time, like with Dead Horde, so I'll just suggest you to stay away from it :P

I basically look out for sales and bundles, then go to Steam and see if the game has coop, try to research a bit to check if it would be worth, then tell my friend if he wants to buy that game too so we can coop.

If you like racers, Flatout 2 is on sale right now, but the "other" version works online without problems so you might want to check it out. It's really fun with a friend.

I also think we had a thread here about coop games, but it might be quite out to date right now. Anyway, if you need, I can check my games list better and see if I find some other game worth mentioning. The only other one I can remember right now (it's bed time :P) is Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War (any of the first series), which me and my brother played for months in skirmish mode, in the same team against the computer (so kinda like coop). One of the best RTS I ever played, and one of the best coop-like experiences I've had so far.

We do
Sounds intense and I know Andy is partial to a sniper xD

definitely be looking into these games too
FEAR 3, Final Exam, Flatout 2, Little Racers STREET, Serious Sam series, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War (any of the first series)

Thanks Cunin :Thumbs up:

We just need 2 more players for the 4 player veteran chiever *stares at andy and dub* ^^

also, in terms of co-op, borderlands 1 and 2 are also good games... been playing quite a bit of BL2 lately
it does depend slightly on your party, as all loot is shared, but i havent had any probs there :)
go buy BL2 so i have an excuse to use my krieg character :3

I played BL1 a while ago and didn't like it that much in solo, but I can see it being fun in coop. I mostly hated it for the bugs and bad pc port, though, as I had to spend hours just to find fixes for choppyness and other problems. BD1's free version works online btw :)

For your OS problem, some games will definitely work there, like the whole Serious Sam series and Dawn of War.

ReKoil: I can't assure you anything, but if you're in 3 and trying to get a 4th to get that achievement, send me a request on Steam. I may be around and have some time :)
But would that need us to play the whole game in one go? Because that would be too much for me lol

Successfully complete All Chapters 4 players on Elite Difficulty

well I hope we dont have to do all chapters in a row cuz i dont think anyone has the time for that lol ^^
and i noticed cudaker has nza2 but not nza1 :\ *stares at cudaker to buy first one too when its on sale so that we have a fourth :3*

I played BL1 with a crew of 3 others and we had a pretty good time. Our battle against crawmerax was pretty damn awesome :3 Though they kinda ruined the raid boss thing in bl2 by slapping you to death with them xD There was only 1 in Bl1. Theres 1 in BL2 maingame + 1 for every main expansion and the pirate expansion even has 2 of them + the final headhunter dlc is another invincible....
As for bugs we didnt run into them that often, but they were definitely there.

also, dub & andy, have you tried this (quick copy paste ^^):

OS Specific Troubleshooting

If you are running in Windows XP, take the following steps:
  • Exit Steam.
  • Go to the Start menu, select Run, type regedit and click OK.
  • Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE
  • Right click and select Permissions
  • Check the Allow boxes for Admin and System for both Full control and Read.

i found that here: https://support.stea...=3359-PSCB-8157 (scroll down)

Hmm I might ask my other friend, but it would be hard to be both us and you online at the same time lol. Cudaker got them both, I can see it in his game list, but he never played the first so maybe you checked the recent list. He only played 0.6 hours of the second also. Not that my friend played so much more anyway lol.

I think people would just join if you set the game as public, but sometimes they leave just before the end of the level, which will make the efforts lost (I've had to replay quite some maps to get the 4 player achievements because of that :P).

I checked the ' you have this many friends who play this game' list on the game's page in my library ^^
and there shouldn't be a big difference between Italy and the Netherlands timezone wise, maybe 1 or 2 hours :3
I dont know where your friend is from, but my other steam friend i played nza1 with, who also wants the chiever is also dutch.
and since steam is on auto boot it should put me online a lot +_+

Yeah it's not a timezone problem (we are on the same one), but a life problem lol. I usually play at night, and my friend is from uk (-1 hour from us, you see him on irc, he's leprosy) but is very busy, so we can't manage to play together more than once or twice in a month.

If you're still interested, here's a bundle with a couple games with coop/mp (I didn't check them all yet): http://www.bundlesta...elirium-bundle/

3 euro and you get Little Racers STREET (fun little racer if you play with friends), and Scourge Outbreak (it's coop, and you should also get the first version of the game on Steam, after some time you activated the key, and that's coop too afaik).
