player that needs help:  rossnisbe

 

 

hey guys, been trying to help this guy many times now to update his renegade scripts but it not working for him no ideas why, all i know is that the game he has got is not the original game disc he has the 1st decade version.

He has now downloaded the maps from here (ttm1/b01/b02) but is still unable to play them when the map loads he is auto exited

 

I have seen when he joins:

 

Host: Player rossnisbe joined the game

Host: rossnisbe needs to update his Renegade to version 2.9(or above) - Download Update at TiberianTechnologies.org

 

 

Any help for this would be great thanks,

I think it has something to do with the registry values in regedit but i'm not 100% sure.

i'm gunna assume he did correctly install his maps to the right folders; maps in data folder and scripts in the renegade folder.

the issue of crashing on map finished loading might be a driver or hardware issue. possible for him to list his rig's specs? sometimes due to the age of renegade, newer drivers or hardware dont work right or they just dont like this dinosaur game and cause insta crashes on the map finishing loading and the game rendering engine starting up. it could also be an os issue. there are many reports of old games not working on win 8.1 and 10. ask him for his windows version too.

also, the issue of the server sometimes not detecting the scripts correctly is a known issue. (nothing to do with registry. scripts still work if u install them manually by renaming the dll files) i have personally experienced this myself a few times. i clearly remember logging in with scripts activated (for some maps) but server says i dont have scripts and tells me i need a script upgrade.

he also got a new version of the game too he now has the unlimited collection version?

i think u meant the ultimate collection.

searching around the net, it seems that lots of the old cnc titles have got major problems working on newer versions of windows. many ppl have complained of ea releasing old unfixed titles that dont work on modern windows (win8 and later).

it seems that the newer versions of windows dont come with the older obsolete directx 8 and older libraries required for renegade to run. u have to goto the m$ website and update your directx manually. this installs all of the directx files and libraries even the obsolete ones. do note this requires a few hundred megabytes of disk space.

after installing the directx 8 libraries, the game has to be run in windows xp compatibility mode. ask him to try the above and report back if it still doesnt work with the error msg (or any) he is getting or with when renegade stops working.
