Direct connect from Renegade shortcut.
I modified my Renegade shortcut on my desktop. As I only play at Exodus.
This is the original line in the box named "target".
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade™\Renegade\game.exe"
This is the modified syntax for direct connect.
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade™\Renegade\game.exe" +connect 216.245.195.90:3220 +NetPlayerName WykydVamp

Option 2.
Right click Renegade desktop shortcut and choose copy. Right click in blank area of desktop and choose paste.
Right click new shortcut and choose rename, and name it "Exodus Renegade".
Right click Exodus Renegade shortcut and choose properties.
Copy the below modified text for your version and paste it into the "target" box replacing "YourName" with the name you wish to join game with, then press save.
Renegade:
"C:\Westwood\Renegade\game.exe" +connect 216.245.195.90:3220 +NetPlayerName YourName
The First Decade:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade™\Renegade\game.exe" +connect 216.245.195.90:3220 +NetPlayerName YourName

btw what is the difference between "NetPlayerName" and "YourNickname?"

I still use WOL, so completely unfamiliar with Direct Connect.

NetPlayerName is left as is

YOURNAME would be changed to LilDanny (case sensitive)

for example mine is +NetPlayerName FlaminGnz

\Renegade\game.exe" +connect 216.245.195.90:3220 +NetPlayerName WykydVamp

In this line of code it tells windows to start game.exe (Renegade) with the parameters of the Exodus server (+connect)and with a log on name of WykydVamp (+NetPlayerName). +NetPlayerName is a command and YourName is what you place as your log on name, lildanny in your case. All anyone has to do is change my name to any name of thier choosing. This metheod also is a way to get around the WOL 9 character name limit.

\Renegade\game.exe" +connect 216.245.195.90:3220 +NetPlayerName lildanny
this is what yours should look like.

With this way of connecting no more opening movies, no more clicking muti-player online button, westwood button, advanced server button, Exodus server match button, and finally join button. With a double click of this shortcut you are in game in 3-5 seconds depending on your map loading speed.

Have you tried enclosing your nickname between quotes? So..

\Renegade\game.exe" +multi +connect 216.245.195.90:3220 +NetPlayerName "Prulez"

^ Is what mine looks like.

I apologize, Prulez is using big words in an attempt to make himself (no not you himself92) look more intelligent.

The +multi switch allows you to run two or more "instances" of Renegade at one time (an instance is simply a copy of the game). This means you can start Renegade, then start Renegade yet again and have two copies of the game running at the same time.
